Have you ever seen the sky turn dark in the middle of the day? That's what happens during a solar eclipse! A solar eclipse is like a special show in the sky when the Moon moves between the Sun and the Earth. It makes the Sun disappear for a little while. During a solar eclipse, the Moon blocks the Sun's light, creating a shadow on the Earth. There are different types of solar eclipses, such as total, partial, and annular eclipses, depending on how much of the Sun is covered. People all over the world get excited to watch this amazing event, and scientists study it to learn more about our Sun and Moon. Let's explore more about this incredible phenomenon together!

It is essential to wear special eclipse glasses or use other safe viewing techniques to protect your eyes when observing a solar eclipse directly, as looking at the Sun without proper eye protection can be harmful. Solar eclipses have fascinated people for centuries and have inspired myths, legends, and scientific discoveries. The next total solar eclipse after the one on April 8, 2024, visible in North America will occur on August 23, 2044. So if the solar eclipse is visible in your area, make sure to check it out—it will be an awe-inspiring sight!

This Google slide deck includes a main menu slide with links to 8 different virtual trips about solar eclipses and uses embedded videos. This slide deck also includes a linked image in the bottom corner to return to the menu slide. It is best used in Present mode with the teacher sharing their screen. Another option is to go to File > Publish to Web and use that link. As always, teachers should preview the trips before using them to determine what best fits the needs of their class. I hope that these virtual trips are enjoyed by you and your students. Check out even more virtual field trip slide decks here and make copies to use and enjoy! Many districts block things (including file shares) that are coming from outside of their domain. Please try making the copy from a personal email or Gmail account. Then, you can share the file with your school account. If you request access, I won't be able to grant it or respond to your email request, since the issue is blocked on your end.
